Pertamina to Test Carbon Injection at Jatibarang Field

PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) implements carbon capture storage/carbon capture utilization and storage (CCS/CCUS) technology by planning a carbon injection trial at the Jatibarang Field in late 2022. PHE CEO Budiman Parhusip said Pertamina's upstream sub-holding and joint study partners would prioritize CCS/CCUS developments in the early stages for enhanced oil and gas recovery (EOR/EGR). "We see that CCS/CCUS is a new business potential for PHE, and we are working with partners to evaluate this potential," Budiman said on Thursday.

Currently, PHE is conducting a joint study in several oil and gas fields to develop CCS/CCUS, including CCUS EGR Gundih Field, CCUS EOR Sukowati Field, CCUS Ramba Field, and CCUS Jatibarang Field. "We certainly hope that a fiscal term in a regulatory perspective can be even more attractive to help the project's economic value. This is because the CCS/CCUS investment is quite huge," Budiman said.
