Summary

Electrum, a joint venture between PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk (GOTO) and PT TBS Energi Utama Tbk (TOBA), will supply 2 million units of electric motorcycles in Indonesia. Electrum, also operating 13 battery-swap stations in Jakarta, has supplied 300 electric motorcycles for Gojek. In an interview with Nikkei Asia on Sept 20, Electrum president director Pandu Sjahrir said this effort would help Gojek achieve its zero carbon emissions goal.

Pandu assured that Electrum keeps innovating and looking for solutions to anticipate climate change. "It was a very fast adoption. It means that there is good product-market suitability. People like to use this electric motor," he said. Increasingly expensive fuel prices will naturally drive up electric vehicle sales. He was optimistic that Gojek's aim to operate 100 percent of its fleet with electric vehicles by 2030 could be achieved faster.
