Waiting for the Establishment of Data Privacy Authority
The House of Representatives (DPR) plenary session on September 20 finally passed the Personal Data Protection Law (UU PDP). The House's deputy speaker Lodewijk Freidrich Paulus revealed 295 House members attended the meeting, 73 of which attended physically, while 206 members attended virtually. About 16 people were absent. "Thus, the forum's quota has been met," he said Tuesday.
The ratification was attended by government representatives, namely the Communications and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate and Home Affairs deputy minister John Wempi Wetipo. Johnny Plate said that the PDP Law ratification was a new milestone in the Indonesian digital sector and called it the first regulation on personal data protection. "Since the President submitted the draft to the DPR on Jan 24, 2020, we had worked hand in hand to complete the discussions on all the substances of this law," he said.
