Pertamina, KHAN to Work on Rig-to-Reef Pilot Project

Summary

Indonesia's oil and gas company Pertamina and South Korea's KHAN agreed to carry out a joint rig-to-reef pilot project covering the Attaka offshore block in East Kalimantan. Pertamina general manager Djudjuwanto revealed in a statement that the signing was the follow-up to the project's initiation in July 2019.

This project agreement is a part of the Implementing Arrangement, the legal umbrella between the Governments of Indonesia and South Korea, which was signed in March 2022. "This regulates, in detail, the dismantling of oil and gas platforms in the Attaka field, transporting and sinking them near the Bontang conservation area to become a support structure for coral reef growth, commonly called rig-to-reef," Djudjuwanto said, as quoted by Energy Voice.
