The plan for Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and the chairman of the Democratic Party Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) to run as presidential and vice presidential candidates in the 2024 Presidential Election has been widely reported in the media. This happened after the Head of the Democratic Party's Election Campaign Unit Andi Arief uploaded a photo of AHY's meeting with Anies and several other political party leaders. The moment was taken at the wedding ceremony of NasDem Party politician Sugeng Prawoto's son on Sept 18.

In the photo, Anies and AHY are seen together with the President of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) Ahmad Syaikhu, Chairman of the NasDem Party Surya Paloh, and former Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla. Kalla is known to be close to Anies and has been rumored to be his main political patron.
