E-grocery Startups Struggle to Keep Quick Commerce Business
Quick commerce startup Dropezy is reportedly closing all 20 dark stores around Jakarta. A DealStreetAsia source reported that the closure is part of a strategy to shift to an asset-light business model. Dropezy co-founder Nitesh Chellaram said the company is preparing a new strategy that will be announced to the public soon. "We have not been able to reveal the new strategy because it is still being processed internally," he said, as quoted by DealStreetAsia, Saturday.
As an illustration, Dropezy turned into a quick commerce company after raising US$2.5 million in Pre-Series A funding in September 2021. Dropezy used the funds to build dozens of dark stores across Greater Jakarta. At the beginning of its establishment, Dropezy emerged as an online grocery that positions itself as a daily needs platform so that consumers can shop in small quantities several times a month.
