Indonesia to Form Emergency Response Team to Ward Off Hackers
The Indonesian government plans to create an emergency response team to deal with cybersecurity issues due to rampant hacker attacks. A hacker called Bjorka claimed to have illegally accessed important state data, including President Joko Widodo's personal letters. "There needs to be an emergency response team to maintain data management, to maintain public trust," Communications and Informatics Minister Johnny Plate said on Monday.
The team will likely consist of the representatives of the National Cyber and Encryption Agency (BSSN), the Communications and Informatics Ministry, the police, and the State Intelligence Agency (BIN). However, he did not explain when the team would start working or the details of its duties and functions. Meanwhile, BSSN head Hinsa Siburian ensured no electronic system had been affected by the attacks so far. "We hope people remain calm," he said.
