Jokowi: Indonesia Might Lose in WTO Nickel Export Ban Lawsuit

Nikel
Summary

President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo stands on firm ground to face lawsuits by European Union and other countries to the World Trade Organization (WTO) over the policy of banning nickel ore exports. In fact, Jokowi said it does not matter if Indonesia loses at the WTO following the mass complaints.

"Indonesia doesn't need to be afraid to stop exporting nickel. It's okay to get sued at the WTO. It looks like we also lost, but that's okay. But, the goods are already there, the industry is ready," Jokowi said when opening the Workshop for 100 Indonesian Economists 2022, Wednesday. According to him, industrial downstream processing will improve governance and added-value to domestic mineral products.
