Sharp Eyes ASEAN Market with New AC Factory

Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita revealed Sharp Electronics is erecting an air conditioner (AC) factory worth Rp 582 billion. "On February 24, Sharp carried out its AC factory groundbreaking," Agus said on Sunday. As of July 2022, the construction has been 43.55 percent complete.

The factory, with a production capacity of 1.2 million units per year, is located on a ​​3.3-hectare land in Karawang International Industrial City (KIIC), Karawang, West Java. According to Agus, the Sharp factory will provide jobs for 1,000 people. It is part of the company's further efforts to penetrate Indonesia's electronics industry. "To reduce imports of electronic products, the government encourages [companies] to carry out import substitution and maintain the industrial business climate," he said.
