Saratoga Taps to Carbon Credit Business with Forest Carbon Investment
Based on the company's disclosure of information, PT Saratoga Investama Sedaya Tbk (SRTG) has invested in Forest Carbon. Forest Carbon is a company engaged in the credit business that has been operating for 12 years in Indonesia. It focuses on forest restoration and conservation projects in Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Papua, as well as expansion in the Southeast Asian market. Since 2016, AXA IM Alts' Impact Investing Strategy has also been investing in Forest Carbon's large-scale wetland and forest restoration project. “For the first time, Indonesia's leading investment company is supporting the carbon market as a tool for forest management and economic development. As an active and leading investor in the Indonesian investment community, Saratoga carries an unrivaled reputation and track record of helping build our business,” Jeffrey Chatellier, CEO of Forest Carbon, revealed in a written statement.
Saratoga director of investment Devin Wirawan said Saratoga's involvement in the carbon credit was triggered by the growth of local businesses that not only create jobs but also focus on sustainable economic growth by recognizing the value of Indonesia's natural resources. “Saratoga believes that long-term financial gains can go hand in hand with efforts to protect forests,” Devin said.
