Germany Rejects New Indonesian Passport
The Embassy of Germany in Jakarta rejected the latest design of Indonesian passports for not having a signature column. The Directorate General of Immigration of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights apologizes for this problem. "This will have a direct impact on people who are applying for a German visa or whose visa has been issued but cannot go to Germany," a spokesman for the Directorate General of Immigration Achmad Nur Saleh said on Friday.
The Directorate General of Immigration is coordinating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to resolve this issue. According to Achmad, the latest passport design refers to the Law and Human Rights Decree Number M.HH-01.GR.01.03.01/2019 concerning Technical Specifications for Special Security for Ordinary Passports and Travel Letters Like Passports.
Meanwhile, the German Embassy explained that Indonesian passports were rejected because there was no signature column. "We are examining the cooperation scheme between German and Indonesian government agencies. Until now, the German Embassy in Indonesia cannot accept passports without a signature column for processing visa applications," citing the German Embassy statement.
