Summary

House of Representatives' (DPR) chairman of energy commission Sugeng Suparwoto bluntly said that a strong fossil fuel lobby hinders the legislative process of the Renewable Energy Bill (RUU EBET). "The Energy Commission will immediately draft the Renewable Energy Bill, which is not easy due to our fossil fuel politics. I think we all know the coal lobby is strong, driven by big coal companies," Sugeng elaborated without singling out names on Thursday.

Nevertheless, Sugeng is optimistic that the bill will be ready shortly. Moreover, the current energy crisis has grown public awareness of clean energy. "Everyone now agrees to use renewables, supported by the Renewable Energy Law," he said.
