Battle Against Imported Steel Continues
The Trade Ministry has confiscated 2,128 tons of made-in-China steel, failing to meet the Indonesian National Standard (SNI). Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan said the products seized were zinc plated steel (BjLS) and galvanized steel coils with aluminum-zinc alloy (BjLAS) worth Rp 41.68 billion in total. "We are responding to information about the increasing number of steel imports that do not meet the standards," Zulkifli said on Tuesday.
These products, failing to meet the SNI 07-2053-2006 and SNI I 4096:2007 provisions, was imported by two companies in Serang Regency, Banten, and Surabaya City, East Java. These companies allegedly violated Law No. 8/1999 on consumer protection, Law No. 7/2014 on trade, and Trade Ministerial Regulation No. 69/2018 on supervision of circulating goods and/or services. "The imports have created unhealthy competition and could kill the domestic industry," Zulkifli continued.
