Chery Motor to Build Manufacturing Base in Indonesia

Chery Automobile, one of the leading automotive manufacturers in China, is following other global automotive companies that are ramping up investments in Indonesia. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo met with Zhang Shengshan, Executive Vice President of Chery International, at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, Beijing, on July 25.

During the meeting, Zhang presented Chery's investment plan in Indonesia to Jokowi, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi. Chery is committed to investing US$1 billion in stages until 2028. The investment plan includes the development of electric vehicles.

"Mr. Zhang introduced the planning of Chery's technology, product, battery, and other related industrial chains. Highly recognizing the international and technical strengths of Chery Group, leaders including Minister Luhut and the Minister of Foreign Affairs agreed with Chery's investment plan in Indonesia," Chery management said in a statement on Tuesday.
