Indonesia to Focus Nonconventional Oil and Gas Development in 3 Areas
The Upstream Oil and Gas Business Regulatory Task Force (SKK Migas) explains that three regions have the potential for non-conventional oil and gas resources (MNK): central Sumatra, northern Sumatra, and eastern Kalimantan. Acting Head of the Program and Communication Division SKK Migas Mohammad Kemal said that the largest MNK reserves are currently in Central Sumatra, while those in northern Sumatra and eastern Kalimantan are relatively small.
According to him, the United States (US) has a great interest in developing the potential of MNK in Indonesia. In fact, Indonesia has collaborated with the Midland-based largest MNK producer. However, "all the potential for reserves is still being researched, including the regulations and the fiscal system because it requires different things," he said.
