How Big Is the UK's Opportunity in the MRT Jakarta Project?
The British government is offering export loans worth 1.25 billion pounds or Rp 22 trillion for the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project. The UK Prime Minister's trade envoy for ASEAN Richard Graham said on Sunday that the funds would come from the UK Export Finance "for the development of the MRT Jakarta corridor and the development of the urban regeneration project capable of changing the style of the people of Jakarta."
MRT Jakarta president director William Sabandar welcomed this commitment. William said he would report this funding plan to the central government and the Jakarta governor. "We also signed a memorandum of understanding with the British government-owned transportation consultant, Crossrail International, regarding the capacity building, including organizational structure and alternative funding schemes for the development of the MRT Jakarta line," he said.
