In Memoriam: Merpati Nusantara Airlines

The Surabaya Commercial Court judicial panel invalidated any peace solution known as homologation related to PT Merpati Nusantara Airlines, a state-owned airline engaged in pioneering aviation. The decision, taken on June 2, means that Merpati Airlines is one step closer to bankruptcy. In a written statement on Tuesday, PT Perusahaan Pengelola Aset (PPA) stated that the court had appointed a supervisory judge and a curator who would oversee the bankruptcy process.
PPA president director Yadi Jaya Ruchandi said the company had done its best to carry out the mandate to resolve the Merpati Airlines problem. The homologation cancellation will provide legal certainty for Merpati Airlines, which has not operated since 2014. "With the cancellation of the homologation agreement, Merpati Airlines' obligations to third parties, including severance pays for ex-employees, will be settled from the sale of all assets through an auction mechanism," he elaborated.
