Battery Recycling Giant Attero Eyes Indonesian Expansion

Indian battery recycling company Attero Recycling Pvt plans to invest US$1billion over the next five years to build lithium-ion battery recycling plants in Europe, the United States (US), and Indonesia as demand for the metal soar amid the shift to electric vehicles.
Attero said a huge amount of lithium-ion battery waste is available for recycling. By 2030, 2.5 million tons of lithium-ion batteries will reach the end of their life. "Currently, there is only 0.7 million tons of waste battery capacity for recycling. Lithium-ion batteries are becoming ubiquitous because they are used in consumer electronics and electric vehicles," Attero Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder Nitin Gupta told Bloomberg.
With a US$1 billion investment, Attero will recycle more than 300,000 metric tons of waste lithium-ion batteries annually by 2027. One facility in Poland will start operating in the fourth quarter of this year. Meanwhile, a plant in Ohio is expected to be up and running in the third quarter of 2023. " Indonesia's electric battery recycling plant will operate in the first quarter of 2024," Nitin said.
