President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo assigned the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Pandjaitan to resolve issues related to cooking oil. Director-General of Domestic Trade at the Trade Ministry Oke Nurwan said Luhut would direct the development of the government's application system for cooking oil distribution. "Pak Luhut is experienced in handling pandemics. A kind of director, but the leader is still the president," Oke said.

On the sideline of the Indonesian Christian Youth Movement (GAMKI) Anniversary Saturday, Luhut admitted that he received an urgent order from Jokowi to handle cooking oil issues. "Since three days ago [May 19], I started dealing with the cooking oil scarcity," he said, adding that he expects to resolve various cooking oil price and distribution problems as soon as possible. "We hope it doesn't take too long."
