US Govt Tracks Terrorist Funding from Indonesia

The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the United States Ministry of Finance released the names of five Indonesian citizens involved in financing the terrorist group the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS). In a statement released on May 9, OFAC stated that the five people were operating in Syria and Turkey, besides Indonesia.

According to OFAC's investigation, the five have a crucial in facilitating the journey of ISIS followers to Syria and other areas. The network also transfers money to support ISIS in refugee camps in Syria. The money is collected from Indonesia and Turkey before being used to pay for smuggling children out of the camps and sending them to foreign ISIS fighters. 

Here are the five names:

  1. Dwi Dahlia Susanti: a financial facilitator for ISIS since 2017. She sent money involving individuals in Indonesia, Turkey, and Syria, including her husband, who sent US$4,000 and weapons to an ISIS leader in 2017. Dwi diverted US$500 to ISIS supporters within her network.
  2. Muhammad Dandi Adhiguna: provides financial and operational assistance to Dwi Dahlia Susanti. He also filled out a registration form to join ISIS and sent it to Dwi.
  3. Dini Ramadhani: provides financial assistance to Dwi Dahlia Susanti on several occasions.
  4. Rudi Heryadi: in 2019, Rudi urges donations for those who traveled to ISIS-controlled areas. On June 24, 2020, the Indonesian government sentenced Rudi to terrorism charges.
  5. Ari Kardian: has been charged in Indonesia for facilitating the travel of Indonesians to Syria to join ISIS.
