Ceria Metalindo to Build US$2 Bln Nickel Smelter
PT Ceria Metalindo Prima (CMP) invested US$2 billion to build a nickel smelter. To fund this project, PT Ceria Nugraha Indotama (CNI) subsidiary has just secured a syndicated loan from Bank Mandiri, Bank BJB, and Bank Sulselbar worth US$277.69 million. "The term loan facility will support line 1 RKEF [rotary kiln electric furnace] of ferronickel smelter plant in Lapao-Pao, Kolaka, Southeast Sulawesi," PT Bank Mandiri Tbk President Director Darmawan Junaidi said on Monday.
CMP President Director Derian Sakmiwata said the company plans to build 72 MVA four RKEF lines, with a total annual production of 252,000 tons of ferronickel with 22 percent. In addition, CMP will build a nickel plant with high-pressure acid leach (HPAL) technology, targeting to produce 103,000 tons of mixed hydroxide precipitate (MHP) per year, containing 39 percent nickel and four percent cobalt. The total investment for these projects reached US$2.2 billion. "Of course, we will build all this in stages," Derian said.
