TNI Commander General Andika Perkasa appointed Brigadier General Iwan Setiawan as Commander General of the Army Special Forces Command (Kopassus), replacing Major General Widi Prasetijono. With them, 113 high-ranking officers also underwent rotations and promotions. Head of the Information Service of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Brigadier General Tatang Subarna said this change of position was an ordinary regeneration.

Iwan graduated from the Military Academy in 1992. He is no stranger to the 'red beret corps', having served as one of the Battalion Commanders in Group 2 of Kopassus and Deputy Commander of the Special Forces Education Center (Pusdikpassus). Iwan has also served as the Commander of the Main Regiment (Rindam) of Kodam Jaya and the Commander of the 052/Wijayakrama Military Resort Command (Korem). His last position before being appointed to lead Kopassus was Deputy Assistant to the Army Chief of Staff for Training.
