Govt Sets Coal Price of US$90 per Ton for All Industries

Summary

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) expanded the US$90 per ton maximum coal price for all domestic industries, except for smelters. This policy takes effect on April 1. Previously, this price only applied to the cement and fertilizer industry. The change is contained in the ESDM Minister Decree Number 58.K/HK.02/MEM.B/2022 on the Selling Price of Coal to Fulfill Domestic demands for Industrial Raw Materials/Fuels.

"To provide certainty in fulfilling demands for coal as raw material/industrial fuel in the country, it is necessary to determine the commodity selling price for domestic raw materials," citing the consideration of the ESDM Minister Decree 58/2022 issued on March 23. The first dictum of the regulation states that the government sets the coal selling price to meet domestic industrial raw materials/fuel demands at US$90 per metric ton free on board (FoB) vessel.
