PLN Kick-Starts Diesel Plant Conversion Auction

Summary

PT PLN has opened a tender for the first phase of diesel power plants (PLTD) conversion, which will take place this year. The state-owned energy company will convert several of these fossil fuel power stations with a total capacity of 212 megawatts (MW), spread over 183 locations, into renewable energy-based power plants. The conversion program has two schemes: turning them into solar power plants (PLTS) with battery energy storage systems (BESS) or into hybrid plants.

PLN intends to announce the tender winner for the Java, Madura, and Kalimantan I areas or Cluster I in October 2022. The conversion project in this area will use the hybrid scheme. "After this, there will be aanwijzing for participants to take the phase I tender document. The PPA [power purchase agreement] signing for Java, Madura, and Kalimantan I will take place in October," PLN Director of Mega Projects and Renewables Wiluyo Kusdwiharto said on Wednesday.
