Hackers Steal Indonesian Taxpayer Data
As many as 49,000 taxpayer data have allegedly been leaked on the dark web. Digital security consultant DarkTracer revealed the taxpayer data were only part of the credential data offered on it. These leaks hit not only the Directorate General of Taxation but also the National Civil Service Agency (BKN), the Education and Culture Ministry (Kemendikbud), the Pre-Employment Card website, the Religious Affairs Ministry, and the Finance Ministry.
In response to the leak, Directorate General of Taxation spokesperson Neilmaldrin Noor assured that the data managed by his institution was safe and accessible as it should be. He suspected these leaks originated from a user's device infected with malware, then the perpetrator took the data and used them to enter the government sites. Therefore, Neilmadrin advised users of the tax.go.id and taxpayers to immediately change their passwords and install an antivirus to avoid malware. "For our safety," Neil said on Friday.
