PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk (MEDC) founder Arifin Panigoro passed away in Rochester Minneapolis, United States, on February 28, 2022, 03:29 Jakarta time, at the age of 76 years. "Inna lillāhi wa Inna ilaihi rājiūn, let's pray together, may the late Mr. Arifin Panigoro get the best place beside Allah SWT, Amen," Minister of State Secretary Pratikno said in a written statement on Monday. Up until his death, Arifin was a member of the Presidential Advisory Council, or Wantimpres, for the 2019-2024 administration.

Wantimpres member Muhammad Mardiono stated that Arifin's condition had improved before he passed away. Three days ago, Arifin even received a call from President Joko Widodo. During the conversation, Jokowi asked how Arifin was and who accompanied him during the treatment. Mardiono said Arifin explained that his condition was good and stated that he wanted to recover so that he could do something for Jokowi.
