BRI's Digital Bank to Target Communities in Rural Areas
The Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) keeps encouraging digitalization for state-owned companies, especially in the banking sector. Deputy SOEs Minister Kartika Wirjoatmodjo said SOEs would use PT Bank Raya Indonesia Tbk (AGRO), previously known as BRI Agroniaga, to reach people who currently are unserved by the People's Business Credit (KUR) facility.
"Under BRI, we encourage Bank Raya to transform into a leading digital bank in rural areas. The focus will be on serving the gig economy, which the KUR does not assess," Kartika said at the Mandiri Investment Forum on Wednesday. Later, Bank Raya will cooperate with financial technology (fintech) companies to disburse funding to the public.
