Binomo Uses Influencers to Market Products: Police

The Indonesian National Police called the alleged fraud under the guise of binary options trading are using influencers to market their products. The Head of the National Police's Security Maintenance Agency Commissioner-General Arief Sulistyanto explained that this fraud was used by the Binomo app, which is currently under investigation. "Trading robots, the servers are overseas. Here, they use affiliates or agents. For marketing, they use influencers," Arief said on Wednesday.

For this reason, the National Police encourages a new legal basis for law enforcement on the alleged fraud investments to give a more deterrent effect on the perpetrators. This is because proving alleged fraud crimes is getting more difficult since the perpetrators exploit technological advances. "There needs to be a regulation that is strong enough, with strict sanctions, because this has been handled differently compared to 10 or 15 years ago. Using Criminal Code (KUHP) is not enough," he said.
