AirAsia's Future Bet on Cargo Business
AirAsia subsidiary Teleport has invested in the Indonesian logistics marketplace startup Kargo Technologies. The unspecified funding is issued as convertible notes and will be used to strengthen Kargo's integrated logistics solutions.
The business partnership between these entities will combine Kargo's mid-range capabilities with Teleport's long-range expertise. The investment will also combine Teleport's air connectivity with ground capabilities, leveraging Kargo's trucking technology and network.
Kargo claims it can deliver goods of all sizes to more places in Indonesia and Southeast Asia in less than 24 hours. "With this partnership, we will leverage Teleport's customer base and deal with them based on our expertise. Cargo will be able to meet mid-mile services on the ground. At the same time, Teleport will be able to meet the needs of air and last-mile cargo," Marselinus Erick, Vice President of Cargo Operations, said in a press statement on Saturday.
