KIC: Indonesian Trust Social Media More Than Official Information

Katadata Insight Center (KIC) and the Ministry of Communications and Information (Kominfo) survey on Indonesia's Digital Literacy in 2021 shows that Indonesians trusted social media more than government websites as information sources. This data is still the same as in 2020. This research results from 10,000 respondents from October 4 to 24, 2021. This survey was conducted with respondents aged 13-70 years who accessed the internet for the last three months.
As many as 73 percent of respondents said that social media is a source they usually rely on to get information. Television became the second source of news that the public relied on a percentage of 59.7 percent, followed by online news with 26.7 percent and official government websites with 13.9 percent.
Indonesians mostly trusted television, reaching 47 percent of respondents in the survey. Respondents who trusted social media reached 22.4 percent, while government websites were only 17.9 percent. Only eight percent of respondents stated that online media is a trusted media. KIC research results can be downloaded at the end of this article.
