Gogoro's Next Target: Indonesia’s Battery Swap Business

Taiwan-based company Gogoro plans to keep expanding its business in Indonesia. After becoming an electric scooter provider for Gojek, Gogoro will develop the battery swap business in collaboration with Indonesian energy companies, such as PT Pertamina Patra Niaga. Pertamina Patra Niaga President Director Alfian Nasution revealed that his side had initiated a commercial pilot project for battery swap stations for corporate electric vehicles (EV) along with Gojek and Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC). Pertamina will also open 14 battery swap stations (SPBKLU) at several gas stations (SPBU) in South Jakarta. For example, Gogoro will provide battery storage system (BSS) units at the Kuningan and MT Haryono gas stations, Jakarta.
Founder and CEO of Gogoro Horace Luke said that since 2015 the company has been facilitating more than 240 million battery swaps and reduced carbon emissions by 360,000 tons. Luke said Gogoro would expand to the world's largest motorcycle markets, such as China, India, and Indonesia. "The company has teamed up with top players in the industry, including Hero MotoCorp in India, China's world-leading e-bike maker Yadea, and most recently, Indonesian ride-hailing firm Gojek," says Luke as quoted by Channelnews Asia.
