DPR Rejects PLN's Plan to Buy Coal at Market Price

The Energy Commission of the House of Representatives (DPR) rejected the government's plan to ask PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) to buy coal under the market price, as concluded Energy Commission Hearing Meeting with the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif on Thursday.

"The House's Energy Commission urges the ESDM Minister not to impose DMO [domestic market obligation] coal prices based on market," Energy Commission Chairman Sugeng Suparwoto said.

In addition, it urges the ESDM minister to submit data on the DMO implementation by each coal mining company for each month. "The House's Energy Commission urges the ESDM minister to improve supervision and implementation of the coal DMO policy and impose strict sanctions on companies that do not fulfill these obligations," Sugeng said.
