A Hefty Demand for PLN's Renewable Energy Certificates
A total of 28 local and global companies have purchased Renewable Energy Certificates (REC) from PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN). The Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Ministry is optimistic that the certificate can increase the renewable energy portion in Indonesia's energy mix to 23 percent by 2025. As of December 13, PLN signed a REC sale and purchase contract with 28 local and global companies, such as Nike Trading Company BV, PT Fast Retailing Indonesia (Uniqlo), and PT Reckitt Benckiser.
Dadan Kusdiana, the director-general of Renewables and Energy Conservation, elaborated that the REC would be a concrete breakthrough from PLN to encourage the use of Renewables in Indonesia. "This is a very good initiative in the short term. Hopefully, more companies will use more clean energy and take advantage of REC in the future," Dadan said on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, PLN Director of Commerce and Customer Management Bob Saril hoped that this joint effort would actively contribute to a cleaner world. The REC guarantees the energy used by customers comes from renewable energy power plants audited by an international tracking system, APX TIGRs, located in California, USA. "The electricity that is distributed according to the traded amount comes from renewables," he continued.
