Amman Minerals Can Produce Copper, Gold from Batu Hijau through 2032
PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMNT) is entering its final activities in the Batu Hijau mining area, West Nusa Tenggara, with phase 8 development starting this year. AMNT President Director Rachmat Makassau said that his party only planned to carry out mining activities until phase 7. However, the plan changed as AMNT's ownership shifted to PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk from Newmont Nusa Tenggara.
"In 2014, Batu Hijau mining plan was up to phase 7 as we saw the development of phase 8 is not economical. With the ownership transition in 2016, the initiative is implemented, we succeeded in maximizing operations so that costs were reduced," Rachmat said Wednesday.
Amman Mineral has succeeded in cost efficiency, thus increasing economic value in phase 8 activities at the Batu Hijau mine. "We estimate that phase 8 can operate until 2031-2032. Batu Hijau has spare stockpiles, and it just needs to be processed. The mine still has few more years of lifetime," he said.
