A New Beginning for CCUS Project in Indonesia

A British energy company BP and the Upstream Oil and Gas Business Regulatory Task Force (SKK Migas) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the carbon capture utilization storage (CCUS) project in the Tangguh Field. "We are planning to build the first CCUS in Indonesia. This project is called Vorwata CCUS," BP Berau Ltd President Director Nader Zaki said on Monday.
He said the Vorwata CCUS project would have a capacity of 4 metric tons of CO2 per year. Later, at the facility, CO2 produced from the drilling process is injected back into the reservoir. BP targets additional gas reserves of 300 billion cubic feet (bcf) in 2035 and 520 bcf in 2045 with the enhanced gas recovery (EGR) technology.
Deputy Head of SKK Migas Fatar Yani Abdurrahman said the MoU's signing would allow the CCUS development study to have a clear plan so that the facility is expected to complete in 2026-2027. "There is a technical discussion of the final investment decision (FID) acceleration process. The CCUS has just started; we have to restart the study," he said.
