A New Chapter of Indonesia-France Strategic Cooperations
Indonesia Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto met with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian on November 23, 2021. Both parties discussed the follow-up to the strategic partnership between Indonesia and France in the defense sector. "This includes the cooperation of peacekeeping forces to the development and research of the defense industry," the Defense Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
Indonesia-France defense cooperation covers various fields, including intelligence, military training and education, science and technology, and the defense industry. There is also cooperation between peacekeeping forces and combating terrorism. Le Drian also met with President Joko Widodo, Minister for Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, and Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan. "This meeting will discuss the implementation of the Indo-Pacific strategy of France and Europe to support a free, open space, and based on respect for international law and multilateralism," the French government said in a statement.
