Police’s New Assignment in Food and Drug Administration

The Indonesian government will place active police officers as officials in the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM). The Police Headquarters' spokesperson, Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo, revealed that there would be two positions for police officers: deputy for prosecution (echelon I) and one directorial position (echelon II).

The assignments appear in the memorandum of understanding between BPOM and the police. "From a regulatory point of view, it is indeed permitted. Therefore, the Head of BPOM lets the head of the police to chose who will represent the police in the agency," Dedi explained on Tuesday. In carrying out their duties, these two police officers will prioritize ultimum remedium or law enforcement as a last resort. "The constructive element is the priority," he continued.
