Indonesia's Digital Economy Turns to Digital Warungs

Small shop business will likely proliferate in the next two to three years, according to Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Co-Founder of Warung Pintar Group, Harya Putra, during "The Future of the Digital Economy in Indonesia" webinar. "I see in the next two or three years this sector will be even bigger with a broader business approach."
Small shop businesses are writhing, with many companies from conglomerates to banks targeting this sector, Harya said in the webinar organized by Katadata and the University of Technology Sidney (UTS) on Tuesday. The warung business itself is not always the main target for them, but sometimes the digital technology application in the sector is more attractive. This refers to many investments that have gone into startups targeting small shop digitization, including the most recent investment by Jeff Bezos' investment arm, Bezos Expeditions, to Ula, a business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce startup.
