Prabowo's Diplomacy Captivates the United States

Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto met with the United States (US) Minister of Defense Lloyd Austin to discuss cooperation in the defense sector. The meeting took place on the sidelines of The 17th International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) Regional Security Summit in Bahrain on November 20, 2021.

The two discussed the importance of defense cooperation between Indonesia and the US. "At the same time, we appreciate the bilateral relations that have existed between the two countries, especially in the military sector," according to the statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Defense website, as quoted on Monday.

During the meeting, Austin conveyed US policy to encourage the implementation of a rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific region that upholds international law based on shared principles. "Other discussions at the meeting of the two defense ministers were about regional security and bilateral exercises."
