Jokowi Prepares Seat for Energy and Mineral Resources Deputy Minister

President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo will assign another deputy minister to his cabinet. This time, Jokowi has prepared the seat for the deputy minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) through Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 97/2021 on ESDM, which took effect on October 25. "In leading the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the minister can be assisted by a deputy minister under the President appointment," citing Article 2 Paragraph (1) of the regulation.

The Deputy ESDM Minister is appointed and dismissed by the president and reports to ESDM Minister. Based on the regulation, the deputy minister has two areas of duty. First, assisting the ESDM Minister in formulating and/or implementing the ministry's policies. Second, coordinating the strategic policies across organizational units of middle-high leadership positions or echelon I in the ESDM environment. "The minister and deputy minister are one unitary element of the ministry's leadership," citing Article 3 of the regulation.
