Indonesia Opens Investment Opportunities in Geoparks

The Indonesian government opens investment opportunities in geoparks as tourist destinations. President Joko Widodo argued that geoparks would fit the tourism trend during the COVID-19 pandemic, prioritizing ecotourism and wellness tourism. In addition to enjoying the beauty of nature, he said, tourists could also be involved in conservation, education, and cultural preservation attempts. "Geoparks can also be developed into attractive geotourism sites," Jokowi explained on Monday.
The State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs/BUMN) Minister Erick Thohir said the development of geoparks as tourist destinations could provide a multiplier effect for the community. He explained that besides investment, geoparks could also result in more new jobs in the creative economy sector. "BUMN must also support the government's efforts in the preservation and development of geoparks," he continued.
