Indonesia Aims for Greater Trade Potential with North America
Indonesian Trade Minister Muhammad Lutfi stated that the government had ratified the Final Reference Paper containing elements potentially listed in the ASEAN-Canada FTA. Lutfi and nine ASEAN Economic Ministers had agreed over the document with Canadian Minister of International Trade Mary Ng.
Lutfi said the ASEAN-Canada FTA negotiations were the result of the 10th ASEAN Economic Ministers (AEM)–Canada Consultation Meeting. "As Country Coordinator, Indonesia emphasizes the importance of the immediate completion of ASEAN-Canada FTA," he said, citing various citing benefits on the economy, broader market access, and competitiveness. "Negotiations can start next year and become Indonesia's achievement during the ASEAN Chairmanship period in 2023."
