Al Khaleej Sugar Co, the largest sugar producer in Dubai and the fifth largest in the world, will invest US$2 billion in Indonesia's ethanol industry. Putu Juli Ardika, Industry Ministry's acting director-general of Agro-Industry, revealed that Al Khaleej Sugar Co was interested in producing ethanol in Indonesia. "They are ready to produce 750,000 tons of ethanol per year," he said at the Expo 2020 in Dubai on Wednesday.

He also said Al Khaleej would also develop sugarcane derivative products such as biomass, used as an alternative fuel or energy supply for power plants, "while ethanol will be used to fuel motor vehicles." Putu claimed that Al Khaleej's investment plan had been submitted to the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry.
