Pandu Sjahrir, the King of Startups
Indonesian Stock Exchange (IDX) Commissioner Pandu Patria Sjahrir invested in Emtrade, a financial technology (fintech) company belonging to investor Ellen May. Pandu will act as an Advisor and a minority shareholder in Emtrade.
"We are pleased to have earned Pandu Sjahrir's trust, a prominent figure in the fintech world and the capital market. With his support, we are ready to serve even better and increase the coverage or scale of services digitally," Ellen wrote in her statement on Thursday.
Emtrade was launched in 2014 as a technology-based stock education platform. Emtrade is currently transforming into a fintech investment platform with Robo-advisory features. Ellen stated that she and Pandu had the same vision to support the growth of capital market investors in Indonesia, especially retail investors. It is something that needs to be done so that retail investors get proper financial literacy and inclusion.
Retail investors pose great potential. Based on the Indonesian Central Securities Depository's (KSEI) data as of September 30, 2021, the number of Indonesian capital market investors has reached more than 6,287,350 Single Identification Numbers (SID), including 2.9 million SID. Of the total capital market investors, 80 percent are young investors under the age of 40 (millennials and Gen Z).
