Unreliable Electricity to Takes a Toll on North Morowali
The North Morowali Regent Delis Julkarson Hehi revealed that several investors threatened to leave North Morowali and cancel their investment due to frequent power outages in the area. If the problem persists, North Morowali's nickel industry will be in jeopardy. "There are too many power outages. I deliberately ask you, gentlemen, to find a solution as soon as possible. Investors will definitely ask about the power reliability before investing. So, this is a serious problem," Delis explained during a meeting with PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara's [PT PLN] representatives at the North Morowali Regent's Office on Tuesday.
Kolonodale Desnart Sabudu, PLN manager of the Customer Service Unit (ULP), explained that currently, four of 10 engines at the Topirada Diesel Power Plant (PLTD) were damaged so they had to be turned off. To meet the electricity demand in North Morowali, the electricity supply also comes from the Wawopada Minihydro Power Plant (PLTM) 1 and 2.
