The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) released a report on tax havens called Pandora Papers on October 3, 2021, mentioning 35 state leaders, hundreds of officials, and world celebrities. The investigative report is based on leaked 11.9 million documents from 14 financial services companies worldwide.
The document contained the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and the Coordinating Minister for the Economic Airlangga Hartarto, Tempo reported. Airlangga is listed as the owner of Buckley Development Corporation and Smart Property Holdings Ltd based in the British Virgin Islands. Meanwhile, Luhut reportedly served as the President Director of Panama-based company Petrocapital S.A.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Investment Jodi Mahardi confirmed the information through a statement released on Monday (10/4). According to him, Luhut had served as President Director of Petrocapital S.A. from 2007 to 2010. The oil and gas company would be used for business development abroad but faced various obstacles.
