All Danone-Aqua Plants to Have 15 MWp Rooftop Solar PV
Danone Indonesia inaugurated a 2,112 kilowatt-peak (kWp) rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) at the Danone-Aqua Mekarsari Factory, Sukabumi, West Java. The green energy plant can generate 2.3 gigawatt-hours (GWh) in electricity per year while reducing 1,916 tons of carbon emissions. Danone Indonesia Vice President General Secretary Vera Galuh said her company would continue to support the government in overcoming climate change by developing rooftop solar PV in the area of operation.
"When we talk about future challenges other than COVID-19, what is becoming more real is climate change. It is our collective obligation, not only the government but the private sector, to deal with climate change," Vera said at a virtual press conference at Danone-Aqua Factory rooftop solar PV inauguration on Tuesday (9/21).
West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil appreciated Danone Indonesia's decision in developing rooftop solar PV. He hopes that Danone Indonesia will become an example for other industries in West Java. Therefore, Ridwan plans a regulation to encourage the installation of rooftop solar power plants for the industry in West Java, considering its vast potential. "This rule will make it easier for the industry to follow, considering that 60 percent of the industry [in Indonesia] is in West Java," he said.
