Govt Curbs Processed Nickel Export, How Will It Affect the Industry?

Summary

The government will regulate the export of nickel-processed products. Later, only nickel products with a minimum content of 70 percent may be exported. The Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia said the government would prohibit the export of processed products containing only 30 to 40 percent nickel.

The policy was taken by considering the current amount of nickel reserves. In addition, the regulation also seeks to increase the added value of mineral products. "It’s related to the 70 percent nickel content for exports so that Indonesian exports have added value," Bahlil said in a virtual press conference on Friday (9/17).
