Summary

The government and the House of Representatives (DPR) passed the Law on the Ratification of the ASEAN Agreement on Electronic Commerce (AAEC). Trade Minister Muhammad Lutfi said with the passing of the law, the trading scheme through the electronic system (PMSE) applicable in Indonesia could be expanded to the ASEAN level. "This is a tool to improve the economy and adjust domestic policies," Lutfi said on Wednesday (9/8).

The House of Representatives’ deputy chairman of the Trade Commission Mohamad Haekal asked all parties to pay attention to negative aspects of the agreement. He also hoped that the government would keep prioritizing the national interest even though it adopted the ASEAN e-commerce scheme.
