AKR and BP to Develop Indonesia’s EV Ecosystem

PT AKR Corporindo Tbk (AKRA) is trying to develop an electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem in Indonesia by building several EV charging stations (SPKLU). Trading on the Indonesia Stock Exchange as AKRA, the company will team up with BP in the process. AKR Corporindo Director and Corporate Secretary Suresh Vembu said that the company chose the British energy company as a partner for its technological and marketing experiences. BP also owns the UK's largest network of EV charging stations, BP Chargemaster. "Maybe in 3-5 years, when electric cars grow in Indonesia, we will be ready," Suresh revealed at the 2021 Public Expose on Wednesday (9/8).
In addition, AKR will also try to develop battery-swap stations (SPBKLU), making it easier for users to charge their EVs. The President Director of AKR Corporindo Haryanto Adikoesoemo said that it would take at least 4-5 hours to charge an EV from home with a capacity of 20 kVa. However, with BP's technology, users only need about 30 minutes. "BP has prepared this strategy going forward, and we will keep developing charging and battery-swap stations for EVs," he continued.
